Dish or bowl on low foot. Earthenware covered front and back with presumed tin glaze. Painted with soldiers riding through a town. To the right a woman gesturing to Trajan (on horseback, crowned); between them her dead child. Centre background is a shield of arms - Gonzaga impaling Este, for Isabella d'Este, Marchioness of Mantua. At the bottom, a tablet lettered "NEC SPE NEC METU". Subject mentioned in Dante.
