Contrada del Leocorno

Leocorno (uniorn) is situated to the east of the Piazza del Campo. Traditionally, its residents were goldsmiths. The people of the Leocorno contrada are called blockheads by their enemies. Ostensibly the reference to a hard head or thick skull refers to the unicorn's horn. The contrada (alongside Torre, once called Liofante) is one of only two that have changed their names - it was originally called Pantaneto. Their colours are white and orange with blue bands.
