EUR (short for Esposizione Universale Roma) is a district in Rome, south of the city center. The area was chosen in the 1930s as the site for the 1942 world's fair which Mussolini planned to open to celebrate 20 years of Fascism. EUR was also designed to direct the expansion of the city towards the south-west and the sea. The planned exhibition never took place due to Italy's entrance in WWII. Today it is worth going there (easy metro ride) to see the massive fascist architecture of the period.
