An Italian cheese, Casu Marzu is popularly referred to as the rotting cheese. The cheese is actually left out to rot for several days, with flies laying eggs inside it. When the eggs hatch, the maggots come out to eat parts of the cheese. This speeds up the fermentation process. Anyone who eats the cheese will experience health problems like vomiting and bloody diarrhea, no thanks to the maggots that survive inside the body.
