“LUCRETIA”  by Jacopino del Conte (1510-98), an Italian Mannerist painter, active in both Rome and Florence.  Lucretia (died c. 510 BC)  is a semi-legendary figure in the history of the Roman Republic. According to the story,  she was raped by the son of Etruscan king Tarquinius.  After the rape, she urged her husband to avenge her, before committing suicide by stabbing herself.  The incident sparked a revolution that led to the overthrew of the monarchy and establishment of the Roman…
