The ambitious Italians responded with this: the 037. Although its start was rocky, the 037 did the impossible and humiliated Audi by ending their winning streak in the 1983 World Rally Championship. The 037 had a losing formula: it was rear-drive. In the midst of 4WD powerhouses, the fact that this modestly-powered, 2WD Lancia could win the Constructors Championship was nothing short of astonishing. The 037 was the last 2WD car to rally in the WRC.
