"Indian handmade block print cotton \"Kantha\" quilt"

This is a special hand crafted "Kantha Quilt". Kantha is the most popular form of embroidery practiced by rural women. The entire quilt is made of thousands of small and sturdy "kantha" stitches to create a one of a kind masterpiece! The quilt contains of two soft cotton sheets that are stitched together with a needle by hand with a cotton thread. One sheet is plain and the other one is hand block printed with natural vegetable colors. Block print is a very unique art of Jaipur. A hand-carved teak wood block is used to print the pattern. There is one master block that prints the pattern with one color. Up to three blocks are added on the kantha quilt (on top of the master block) to fill in the spaces. It takes several days to complete one set. Because the production is so time-intensive, the highest quality cotton is used. The sheet can be used from both sides.
