This is the perfect bowl for berries, or pudding or fruit. You could put vegetables or mashed potatoes in it but personally I think the aesthetic is all wrong. I think colorful, fresh fruit, chilly deserts, things like that would show to best advantage in this dish. This old, clear glass dish was my Grandmother's and she put berries in it; strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries, or cherries! I believe it was made by the Lancaster Glass Company, only because I saw some similar things attributed to that company. Some would call this Depression Glass, although it seems a little too thick and sturdy. Probably can be dated to the 1920s or 1930s. Because of age and use it has some flaws. The edge of the rim is a little rough, but I wouldn't really call it chipped. There is a bubble in the glass, right next to a mold mark. It does show in one of the pictures. The surface has some scratches from spoons and utensils. 8" in diameter at the rim, 3 1/2" at the base, 3" tall. Holds over a quart of berries and the accompanying whipped cream or ice cream.
