I wanted to share our collection of Christmas gnomes. They are called Nisse (Norwegian) or Tomte (Swedish). Tomte literally means "Homestead Man" so I thought it would be fitting to post a photo of them here. In Swedish culture the Tomte resides in the pantry or barn and watches over the household and farm. He is responsible for the care of the farm animals. The Tomte has an enormous capacity for work but will not tolerate anyone’s interference. (Erin Leggat, Canada)
