Three-piece cream silk de chine taffeta with tiny black windowpane & warp-printed floral patterns. Bodice has fringed teal taffeta trim. Dress has a belt with large peplum and an undecorated skirt with buckram hem band.
An 1855 evening ensemble with an elaborate flounced skirt decorated with flowers and stripes. The introduction of the cage crinoline in the allowed skirts to reach enormous sizes. It also saw a vogue for horizontal stripes which echoed.
