[Unknown,Woman sacrificing at an altar, right leaf of the diptych of the Nicomachi and the Symmachi, ivory, ca. 400, Late Antiquity] This is a classical style ivory carving. As you know this is a diptych, which mean there are two leaf. One of the pair define commemorate either the marriage of members in the powerful Roman family or two prominent male members of the families. Nonetheless, the important message is the faith from Nicomachi and the Symmachi toward the old pagan gods.
