This is: House of Many Ways - It is set in the same world as Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Air

I also read House of Many Ways. Charmain is a helpless and lazy young girl, but Diana Wynne Jones' writing, as well as the small bits where Sophie (and "Twinkle") is actually in the story, help.

I loved the books of Howl's Moving Castle! Thank you Diana Wynne Jones for the book and thank you to Miyazaki for bringing this wonderful story to life in the greatest way possible!
