In the Forest Under Night by Matthew Stewart - This is a scene from the tale by J.R.R. Tolkien that appears in both The Silmarillion and in a longer form in The Children of Hurin. Gwindor is a Noldor Elf lord captured in "The Battle of Unnumbered Tears". At this catastrophic defeat Gwindor was kept alive as a slave. He escaped into the forest Taur-nu-Fuin, which means "great forest under night". He lost a hand in his escape, and carries a Feanorian lamp.

And when Aredhel, weary with wandering, came at last to his doors, he revealed himself and welcomed her, and led her into his house...and Aredhel bore Eol a son in the shadows of Nan Elmoth.

'And it came to pass that he saw Aredhel Ar-Feiniel as she strayed among the tall trees near the borders of Nan Elmoth, a gleam of white in the dim land. Welcome to Nan - Elmoth - Eol and Aredhel

Alan Lee is such a wonderful artist. I'm so glad that he was able to work with John Howe on both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies.
