The Arches Cluster is located about 25,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Sagittarius (The Archer), close to the heart of our galaxy, the Milky Way. It is, like its neighbor the Quintuplet Cluster, a fairly young astronomical object at between two and four million years old.

The astronomers at NASA and Pennsylvania State University have created the most detailed ultraviolet survey of our two closest major galaxies: the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds. Astronomers used imagery from NASAs Swift Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope to create stunning mosaics. The result: a 160-megapixel mosaic image of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and a 57-megapixel mosaic image of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC).

The Swift satellite has produced the best ultraviolet maps of the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds.

Situated some 5,000 light years away, the stellar nursery of the Lagoon Nebula lies in the constellation of Sagittarius. Despite being light years away the Lagoon Nebula is in fact one of the few star-forming nebulae that it is possible to see with the naked eye in optimum conditions from mid-northern latitudes
