Wiesbaden, Germany: is a city and the capital of the federal state of Hesse. It has about 280,000 inhabitants, plus about 10,000 United States citizens (mostly with the US Army). It is located on the right (northern) bank of the Rhine River, across the Rhine from Mainz. I visited it as a day trip from Mainz while on my bicycle tour of Europe in 1979. The thing I remember most was the majestic red sandstone cathedral, the fine old buildings around it, and American GIs, everywhere I looked.
