HM Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Died: January 22, 1901, aged 81. Three days after her death, Edward VII, the Kaiser and Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught helped lift her into her coffin. An array of mementos was put into it, such as Prince Albert's dressing gown and a lock of John Brown's hair. Her funeral was held on February 2 in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, and after two days of lying-in-state, she was interred beside Prince Albert in Frogmore Mausoleum at Windsor Great Park.

Two days after the funeral, on 4th February 1901, Queen Victoria was taken to Frogmore Mausoleum to rest beside her husband Prince Albert. In this picture the cortège is on its way from The Albert Memorial Chapel through the Upper Ward of Windsor Castle, drawn by the Royal Horse Artillery.

He was the personal attendant to Queen Victoria who often stayed at Balmoral, her Highland retreat, after the death of her beloved Prince Albert in 1861.  The Queen and her ghillie John Brown became such close friends that their relationship caused scandal throughout the court and government of the time. Brown served with her for 34 years before he died at Windsor.
