Franz Kafka and his three younger sisters, Gabrielle, Valerie and Ottilie. During Franz's sisters were sent with their families to the Łódź Ghetto and they all either died there or in concentration camps. -- Did not know this abt him.
On 19 April a train carrying Jews set off from a Nazi detention camp in Belgium for the gas chambers of Auschwitz. But resistance fighters stopped the train. One boy who jumped to freedom that night retains vivid memories, 70 years later.
He is my inspiration for wanting to be a pharmacist. He was not onlya great pharmacist, but he worked in the ghettos in Poland during WWII giving medacine free of charge and helping the jews get more food and information. He is a huge reason people survived in the Kraków Ghetto.
In late 1943 the Nazis began to liquidate the ghetto, deporting many to concentration camps. In March 1944 the SS dragged all children under the age of 12 from homes and hiding paces. This so-called "Children's Action" claimed 1300 lives.
