The Philosophy Cabinet, William Burges. "Made for the guest bedroom at Burges' home, Tower House 1878-9. The painted decoration illustrates the personal problems that undermine the lofty thoughts of philosophers. An entry in Burges's estimate book for Jan 1879 relates to Campbell, Smith & Co's decoration: "Own wardrobe painting- 9 birds @ 5/-, 14 flies, eggs etc. @2/- and decoration @ £2.0.0."" quoted from Jeremy Cooper, Victorian and Edwardian Decor, 130.
