A German Tiger II side by side with a Sherman tank. The Tiger II was captured/abandoned during fighting during the German Ardennes offensive of December 1944 known to most Americans as "The Battle of the Bulge".
During the Nazi occupation the Sicherheitsdienst is situated in the Euterpestraat in Amsterdam-Zuid. For this reason the name Euterpestraat has bad connotations. Shortly after the liberation this street is renamed Gerrit van der Veenstraat after the Dutch sculptor and resistance hero Gerrit van der Veen.
