It was very cold and wet on the Aubisque climb when the riders crossed during Stage 9 of the 1931 Tour de France. Mud built-up on the wheels, adding to the burden of climbing through the clouds. In the left picture, Alphonse (Alfons) Schepers of Belgium would be first to the top of the Aubisque, and finished 8th on the stage, 20 minutes and 47 seconds after the winner. In the right picture, Gaston Rebry leads Antonin Magne to the top.
