Chatsworth The 4th Earl was created 1st Duke of Devonshire in 1694 after assisting the protestant William of Orange to claim the British throne The Duke began to make great changes @ Chatsworth. He completely remodelled the house & added formal gardens & the famous cascade using the skills of over 100 Protestant Huguenot refugee artisans The work was completed before he died in 1707. Many Huguenots settled in Derbyshire & Sheffield
