Traditional bridal/festive 'göynek' (underdress) from the Türkmen village of Durabeyler, near Dursunbey (80 km east of Balıkesir), ca. 1925-1950. Hand woven cotton; the bottom half is lavishly adorned with cotton embroidery (squares, diamonds, crosses, stylized flowers & tree-of-life motifs). The lower edge features small cotton tassels.
