A rare Venetian sallet, celata alla VeneZiana, of the type included in the hoard of armour discovered in the Venetian frontier fortress of Chalcis, circa 1450 with hemispherical skull formed in one piece, rising to a low medial ridge over the crown, cut out over the eyes to form a Y-shaped face-opening, the base encircled by a band of rivet holes, fitted with a characteristically overlapping lower section.
