Rossi, Carlo (1775-1849). Window wall of the White Hall, Mikhailovsky Palace, St Petersburg c.1828. Here the design clearly demonstrates the supremacy of the neoclassical style in the 19th century; the lines are clear and the decoration is restrained; the only elements that still remind us of rococo are the painted decorations over the windows and the few gilded elements. All speaks about the solemn return to a respectful, heroic, distant past of a noble antiquity.
