Yosemite Indian Houses, California ... Their winter huts, or o´-chums were invariably of a conical form, made with small poles, and covered with the bark of the incense cedar (Libocedrus decurrens). A few poles ten or twelve feet long were set in the ground around an area of about twelve feet in diameter, with their tops inclined together. The outside was then closely covered with long strips of the cedar bark, making it perfectly water-tight.

Yosemite-Before she started her basket, the Yosemite Indian woman had to know exactly where to begin each figure of the design. And as the bowl of the basket continued to flare, the size of each figure had to be increased accordingly.

CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL in progress. The 563-foot-high mountain carving-in-the-round will dominate the horizon. A poem by Korczak will be carved on the mountain in letters three feet tall. The 350-foot diameter, hogan-style Indian Museum of North America will be across the reflecting pool from the mountain.The American Indian University & Medical Training Center will rise on either side of the Avenue of the Chiefs. The avenue will be lined with sculptural portraits of famous Native Americans.
