Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, was a Pakistani General and commander of the Military in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) during the insurgency by Bengali Nationalists and Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. The Eastern Command was cut off from reinforcements and without any reserves;was without the resources to win on its own. He finally surrendered unconditionally on 16 December 1971 in Dhaka. Between 90,000 and 93,000 members of the Pakistani military personnel were taken as POWs by the Indian Army.
