NAVAL CATHEDRAL OF SAINT NICOLAS AT KRONSTADT ~ The Cathedral is the main shrine of the Russian Navy, founded in 1902 by decree of Emperor Nicholas II in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Russian Navy. Consecrated in 1913, in 1929 it was closed and desecrated. On the day of its 100th anniversary the Naval Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Kronstadt on the Baltic Sea reopened its doors.
