Murgese stallion, Adone. From southern Italy; the Murgese was developed in the Baroque era by crossing highly influential Neapolitans with Barb and Arabian. The now-extinct Neapolitan, rich with Andalusian influence, was a major foundation of Lipizzaners. The Murgese itself later also almost went extinct, but was reconstructed in the early 20th century.
