Italian Christine de Pisan is one of the most famous French poets of the late Middle Ages. She came to France with her father, who was astrologer to King Charles V. Widowed with 3 children in 1389, Christine supported herself by writing, attracting patrons, such as Isabel of Bavaria wife of Charles VI of France, for whom this manuscript was made around 1410. Christine apparently wrote out the text of this copy herself. At the beginning is an image of Christine presenting the text to the King
