Saint Mother Teresa (1910-1997) took her first religious vows as a nun at 19 and chose to be named after Thérèse de Lisieux, the patron saint of missionaries. In 1946, Sister Teresa received a “call within the call” while traveling from Calcutta to Darjeeling, India. This call later grew into the Missionaries of Charity which is known globally for serving the “poorest of the poor.” Mother Teresa once said: “We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.”
