The Peacock and the Crane Different yet similar. Pavo cristatus and Grus japonensis – the peacock and the Red-crowned crane – vary dramatically in appearance. What’s common to both is the sacred position they hold in their native lands, India and China respectively. Both these majestic birds have a strong presence in the mythology of their countries.
