Almirante Latorre, was a super-dreadnought battleship built for the Chilean Navy. She was the first of a planned two-ship class that would respond to earlier warship purchases by other South American countries. Soon after the ship was ordered in November 1911, and was approaching completion when she was bought by the United Kingdom's Royal Navy for use in the First World War. She served in the Grand Fleet as HMS Canada for the duration of the war and saw action during the Battle of Jutland.

15 in 'R' class battleship HMS Royal Oak, here seen at Malta between the wars, saw action at Jutland in 1916 a month after commissioning.  Modernised twice in the 1920s and 1930s, she was torpedoed and sunk by U-47 whilst anchored at Scapa Flow on 14 October 1939 with the loss of 833 of her 1,234 crew: a remarkable but tragic feat of arms.

HMS Barham Explodes and Sinks, 1941 [Full Resolution]. Dramatic Newsreel footage captured the sinking of the Queen Elizabeth  Class Battleship.   A salvo of torpedoes from a German submarine struck from close range on HMS Barham on November 25, 1941 in the Mediterranean. Within four minutes, the battleship had listed over to Port and the ships magazines had exploded, sinking the battleship and killing 863 men.
