Designed by Catherine Walker, this gown was originally made of lilac raw silk on the bodice and full skirt with a bolero jacket embroidered with violets and roses and adorned with beads. Diana wore this gown in Kuwait in March 1989, and again in May 1989 to a banquet at Claridges's for a banquet for the President of Nigeria. She had it altered in 1992 to a straight lavender skirt when she wore it to a gala celebrating the Queen's golden jubilee. Lot #52 raised $ 51,750 for charity.
