The Elizabeth Reliquary  -The base of the reliquary is an ancient agate bowl. It was originally a drinking vessel, used at Roman and Byzantine banquets. In the eleventh century the bowl was decorated with a wide border of gold, inset with gemstones dating to classic antiquity. Later the bowl became a holy cult object, a reliquary for Saint Elizabeth.
