2008 Carapace Sagrantino di Montefalco, Lunelli Tenuta Castelbuono, Umbria, 15% Dark ruby red with notes of dark cherries on the nose, not so complex, but quite intense. On the palate, dry, quite tannic with good acidity, medium body, perhaps a bit young young, even immature with notes of fruit and a touch of vanilla. BP: Wait a couple of years...or buy and cellar.
2011 Domaine de Beaurenard Chateauneuf du Pape, 15% - 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault Purple red with spicy cherry, vanilla, pepper, a touch vinous. It's dry, warm, soft, quite balanced. Quite persistent, but once again, the alcohol continues through. Full body with dark fruits on the palate. BP: Alcoholic, but worth a try: Buy to try
+2012 Tramin Maglen Pinot Nero Ruby red with garnet reflections. Intense on the nose with smokiness, earthiness, and cherries. On the palate, dry, smoky, good tannins, a wonderful persistency and body. Good alcohol warmth. A truly wonderful Pinot Nero from Tramin. BP: Buy
2012 Coltibuono Chianti Classico vs. 2011 Castellare Chianti Classico Coltibuono - aromas of red fruits, some tropical fruit, and wood, persistent on the palate with light red fruit, a touch of greenery, medium body, ruby red in color. Excellent with lighter fare. Castellare - dark ruby red with pale ruby reflections, intense on the nose with aged oak, minerality, ripe fruit, and tobacco. On the palate, dark red fruits, tobacco, earth. Body is medium, it's quite persistent - heavier fare.
2012 Antonin Rodet Chateau de Mercey Mercurey - Pinot Noir - Ruby red. On the nose, tart cherry was most prevalent. Dry on the palate with a similar tart cherry taste. A difficult harvest; this wine wasn't so appealing. Perhaps the fruit never fully matured. BP: Skip
2005 Villa di Capezzana Carmignano Dary ruby with garnet reflections. Dark fruits dipped in alcohol with some cherries, spice, and blackberry on the nose. Dry, balanced, and harmonious on the palate. A very nice wine.
+1994 Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva Rioja - Earthy with subtle red fruits on the nose, sweet cherry and touches of meatiness. Dry and fruity, touches of sweet red fruits, great finish and persistence. Forever changing on the nose and palate as it opens up.
2008 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino - Burgundy with garnet reflections. Dark cherry and earth with some baking spice on the nose upon opening. Super tight at first. Tart cherry with tons of tannins and acidity when first opened. After 40 minutes, layers of fruit and barrel, some earth, some roasted meat on nose and palate. Much better, but still much too young. Wait another 3 years.
1977 Chateau Ste Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon - Earthy and musty on the nose with some red fruits. Surprisingly still good on the palate with a wonderful mouthfeel, lively fruit, and a balanced texture. Truly a fun wine to enjoy and discuss with friends!
+2011 Terra Bianca Campaccio - 70% Sangiovese, 30% Cab Sauv - Spicy creamy vanilla, amazing cherry, dark fruits on the nose. Dry with wonderful tannins, round but potent, balanced and harmonious. An awesome wine.
Donnafugata - 2011 Lighea - A dry version of Zibibbo, crispy and vibrant on the palate. It is an aromatic white wine with a floreal and fruity aromas of white rose, orange blossom,peach and candied citrus zest.
“Eteria” Grechetto IGT Umbria, an aromatic wine with a complex bouquet which is the result of a blend of white berried grapes of our terroir with Grechetto di Todi. Ideal as an aperitif or served with first courses with fish.
