Aldeburgh Museum online  The Saxon settlement appears to date from the beginning of the eighth century, some fifty years after St Botolph built his minster at Iken and a hundred years after the Saxon cemeteries at Snape and Friston were in use. The site was an enclosure, surrounded by V shaped ditches, of nearly an eighth of an acre in size.  There were two burials on the site, one dated to c740 AD, the other to c810 AD.
