When Germany invaded Poland on Sept. 1, 1939 Paula Zyto was 12 and was forced into the Neusalz slave labor camp. In 1945 as the Allies approached, the Germans forced the 1,000 women working at Neusalz to march 200 miles to another camp in Germany - in the middle of winter. When the 6 week march ended, only 200 women had survived, including Ms. Zyto. The survivors were relocated to Bergen-Belsen. When the camp was liberated, she was nearly dead, but survived to live to 85 years old.
