+~+~+~ BAILLIE TARTAN ~+~+~+   Baillies are first recorded in 1311. The family's fortunes began to decline after their lands were forfeited for their part in the Battle of Langside on the side of Mary, Queen of Scots.  Robert Baillie of Jerviswood (1623-84), was the civil and religious reformer executed for his views. His family were forced to flee to Holland.  The Baillies started the building of Mellerstain House and are the ancestors of the present Earls of Haddington.

The Scottish Register of Tartans (the Register) is a national repository of tartan designs. It is an on-line website database facility maintained by the National Records of Scotland, an executive agency of the Scottish Government.

~+~+~+ MacTavish Tartan +~+~+  The surname MacTamhais is Gaelic for the modern spelling of MacTavish. The Clan was seated in their Charter lands of Dunardarie where they were one of the clans known as  "the children of the mist". The Dalriadic Kingdom of Dunadd is on Dunardarie Lands. During the period known as the Jacobite uprisings, the MacTavish were sympathetic to placing the Stuarts back on the throne, as was their right.
