Immortality by proxy: Alice in Wonderland For most of us, once we are 80, telling the story of all the men who worshiped us way-back-when won’t pay the rent. In that way, Alice was lucky.

This photo, by Julia Margaret Cameron (British, 1815-1879) is titled "Ceres", in which the model is framed by all manner of leafy items. This, in itself, is not particularly interesting. What is interesting, at least to me, is that the model is a woman named Alice Liddell. When she was a young girl, one of Alice's parents' friends, C.L. Dodgson, entertained her with fantastic stories. These stories were published as "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass".
