Lead Plant (Amorpha canescens) Supports over 50 bee species and over 100 insect species  Dry soil in sun works great for this native from Michigan to Arkansas and west to New Mexico, Wyoming and South Dakota. Lead plant reaches no more than about 2 feet tall and wide and has a nice, small shrub form. In fact, you don’t even need to cut it back in spring.

California Poppy It's really funny; plant a pound of seed and get one or two plants (the quail show up and eat all the seeds) and plant 3 plants and get hundreds of new plants the next year. They have reseeded in open mineral soils and areas mulched with coast live oak leaf mulch. The poppies don't care, they like the garden.
