The Universal Carrier was part of a family of light armoured tracked vehicles used during World War II. Often the entire family of vehicles was referred to as Bren gun carriers. Variants included the Medium Machine Gun Carrier (the Vickers machine gun), the Bren Gun Carrier, the Scout Carrier and the Cavalry Carrier. In 1940 a single design was created in the Universal Carrier which became widely produced.
