Hoh Rain Forest - Fiddleheads unfurling in the spring in the rainforests of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula

Fiddlehead ferns unfurling in the Olympic Peninsula rainforest. Fresh fiddleheads are quite tasty!

From my native homeland. The curled Ponga (Tree Fern) koru. The koru is the budlike beginning of a fern leaf before it opens. The symbol is prominent in traditional Maori art motifs such as bone and wood carvings, and tattoos (moko). The unfurling koru leaf pattern represents new beginnings.
