This is Clare Deacon from Tasmania. Clare worked, as a nurse for five years, on the Western Front during WW1 and was awarded the Military Medal (the highest medal for nurses) for bravery and it was pinned on her by King George V at Buckingham Palace. She was also awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal and is listed in the Dictionary of Biography of notable Australians.

Our nursing uniform was a startched below-the-knee white dress covered with a pinafore apron. To complete the picture, we wore white stockings, "clinic" nursing shoes, and of course, our Nursing Cap. Each nursing school had it's own cap and we continued to wear them on the job after graduation.

Australian Army Nursing Service Doll : Sister N C Morrice, 2 Australian General Hospital | Australian War Memorial. This doll was commercially produced by an unknown manufacturer. Sister Nellie Constance Morrice made an Australian Army Nursing Service outfit for the doll as a gift for her four year old niece Peggy in 1915.
