A photo thought to have been taken during the Edo period (sometime in the 1860s) and originally captioned by photographer Felice Beato as: Garden and House of the High Priest of Fusi-yama at Omia. The Venice-born photographer travelled extensively during his career, photographing the Crimean war, the aftermath of the Indian Mutiny and the second Opium War. He settled in Japan from 1863 to 1884 and his body of work is considered to be one of the finest collections of early photojournalism
