This vessel comes from the Nasca culture of pre-Columbian South America. Nasca culture flourished in the Peruvian area from 300 BC–AD 600. Nasca pottery is famous for its multi-coloured painted decoration, which covered the entire surface of the pot, and featured images of mythical beings, and sometimes of trophy heads. This vessel depicts a killer whale deity with blood in its mouth.
