This pendant, featuring Mars, the Roman god of war, was made in the middle of the 16th century by unknown French craftsmen. Gold, silver, lapis lazuli, opal, rubies, pearls, chalcedony and enamel; chased, polished and carved. The rubies imitate drops of blood. Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg, Russia.
