Jack Kerouac, author of On The Road, was a poet and novelist who was a pioneer of the "beat generation" and was famous for his spontaneous, free-flowing style and autobiographical honesty. He was an underground celebrity during his tragically short life and has been a hero to teenagers and iconoclasts ever since. Jack also loved cats, especially his cat Tyke, whose unfortunate passing he wrote about in loving detail in his memoir Big Sur.
