This Bavarian wheellock rifle arrived in Turin in 1650 as a gift of the Duke Maximilian I of Bavaria for the wedding of his son Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy, sister of Charles Emmanuel II. The musket with the wheel wrench, the flask for gunpowder and the powder for the trigger are decorated with mythological stories refined graphite on ivory inlays and grotesque reliefs, blued on golden background, derived from engravings by Etienne Delaune and Aegidius Sadeler.

Flintlock Sword Pistol - This .40 caliber flintlock’s pistol barrel blends in nicely to the short sword and may well have been designed to provide the coup-de-grace in a hunting scenario. While this one could have been made as a double-barreled item, we believe that one side was left flat and plain to allow for easier carrying and drawing.
