Sharon Lane, joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps Reserve on April 18, 1968. She was a 1st Lieutenant in the 312th EVAC HOSP, 67th MED GRP, 44th MED BDE and was killed in Vietnam on June 8, 1969 by a rocket that struck between Wards 4a & 4b of the 312th EVAC Hospital.  She was the only American servicewoman killed in the Vietnam War, from fragmentation wounds, as a direct result of enemy fire.

Sharon Lane was the only American woman killed in the Vietnam War. Her mother recently donated her Aultman School of Nursing uniform to the McKinley Presidential Library & Museum. One of my RN friends served with Sharon.

Un-named Canadian Nursing Sister with her WWII decorations: Kodachrome taken at Riverside, Ontario. She trained as a nurse in St. John, New Brunswick, and volunteered for military nursing service. She met her husband (who was in the Canadian army) they met in France in 1944 during the  Normandy Invasion, and were married on 26 July 1945 in Paris, France. They had a short honeymoon in France, returned to their units and were re-united in Canada. Posted by her son on Shorpy.
