The "Belle Epoque" period runs from about 1890-1914. This particular photograph is probably early Edwardian, around 1905. Womenswear became very frothy and ornamented, with oodles of lace and frills spilling from the clothes, especially on petticoats and blouses, as you can see here.    Her high-piled hair is typical of the "Gibson Girl" look.    This picture also really exemplifies the S-bend corset shape that was popular in this period- look at the curve of her back!

Gibson girl (Charles Dana Gibson late century in US and Canada). Appeared in the late century drew female beauty and represented beautiful American girls. Women with large bust and hips, waterfall curly hair pined-up loosely.

Lily Elsie was a popular actress and singer in Edwardian days. Her dreamy beauty was captured in scores of photographs. She posed in many beautiful dresses, but none so frequently as the one seen here.
